FAQ – Acoustic Wall Panels

How do acoustic panels work?

When noise fills a room, it often becomes difficult to concentrate due to echoes or reverberation. These phenomena occur when sound waves bounce off hard surfaces such as concrete, metal, or glass. Acoustic wall panels are designed to reduce this problem. Made from materials specifically engineered to capture sound waves, these panels convert sound energy into heat or kinetic energy, thereby reducing echo and improving the overall acoustics of the space.

How many acoustic panels do I need for my space?

The number of panels required depends on several factors, including the size of the room, the panel material and thickness, and the intended use of the space. The greater the surface area covered by panels, the more effective the sound absorption will be. For a more accurate estimate, we recommend using our acoustic calculator, which helps determine the exact number of panels needed based on your environment’s acoustics.

What thickness should I choose for my acoustic panels?

Panel thickness plays a crucial role in performance, depending on the type and level of noise you want to treat. For example:

  • 1" thick panels: These panels are ideal for spaces where the main goal is to reduce human speech or conversational noise. They are very effective at absorbing mid and high frequencies typically associated with voices. However, if you are dealing with lower-frequency sounds such as music or bass noise, these panels may not be sufficient.
  • 2" thick panels: For environments with a wide range of sound frequencies (such as music studios or home theaters), thicker panels are more suitable. They are capable of absorbing a broader frequency spectrum, including low frequencies that can otherwise cause unwanted resonance.

Where should acoustic panels be installed?

The placement of acoustic wall panels largely depends on the type of room and the source of the noise. In a music room or recording studio, panels should be positioned to capture sound reflections coming from speakers while taking listener placement into account. In spaces such as offices or restaurants, it is recommended to distribute panels evenly across walls and ceilings to ensure balanced and comfortable acoustics for all occupants.

Depending on usage, adjusting the height of the panels may be beneficial. For example, in a classroom where students are seated, placing panels lower on the walls can be effective. In contrast, in a concert hall or performance space, panels may be installed higher. Suspended acoustic panels mounted to the ceiling can also be a very effective solution.

Do acoustic panels block outside noise?

It is important to understand that acoustic wall panels are not designed to prevent sound from entering a room. Their primary function is to absorb internal sound and improve clarity by reducing reverberation. If your goal is to block noise coming from outside, you will need products specifically designed for soundproofing.

Can the size, shape, and color of the panels be customized?

Absolutely! Our acoustic wall panels are fully customizable. You can choose the size, shape, and fabric to match your aesthetic preferences. We offer a selection of premium fabrics from Guilford of Maine to ensure your panels integrate seamlessly with your interior design. We can also manufacture panels in custom dimensions to meet your specific requirements.

Are acoustic panels kept in stock?

Our acoustic wall panels are made to order to meet your customization needs, whether in size, fabric, or mounting hardware. Production time is generally around 10 to 15 business days, depending on current demand.

How is my order shipped?

Standard-size acoustic wall panels (23" x 47" or smaller) are packaged in boxes and shipped via delivery services such as UPS, Purolator, or similar carriers. Larger panels (47" x 47" or larger) are carefully packed on a pallet and shipped via LTL freight carriers to ensure safe transportation.
